IQAC functions:
The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), located in Bangalore, recommends every institution to establish an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) as a measure to sustain quality after accreditation. The primary function of IQAC is to establish a system for deliberate and continual enhancement in the overall performance of institutions. The Institutional quality, development of quality culture in the college, preparation of the Annual Quality Assurance Report (AQAR) as per guidelines and parameters to be submitted to NAAC. According to the UGC Regulations 2010, IQAC is responsible for maintaining documentation and records. It also promotes faculty participation in professional development programs to enhance their teaching methods. The IQAC’s work is the initial stage in the process of internationalizing quality enhancement efforts. The system will be voluntary and aim to facilitate participation among institutions. It has the potential to facilitate quality enhancement by operating as intended.
The IQAC has some other functions to execute as follows:
1) Gathering responses from students, parents, and other stakeholders on quality-related institutional processes
2) Developing and maintaining a database through Management Information System (MIS) to uphold institutional quality.
3) Documentation of the various programs and activities aimed at quality improvement.
4) Developing a culture of quality within the institution.
5) Prepare the Annual Quality Assurance Report (AQAR) according to NAAC guidelines and parameters for submission to NAAC.
6) The IQAC must annually submit a self-reviewed progress report to the NAAC. This report should outline the concrete results achieved in key areas identified by the IQAC at the start of the academic year through the development of a perspective plan.
Vision:
The vision of IQAC is to establish and maintain a culture of high quality focused on overall excellence at the college level. This involves enhancing the quality of education through a blend of internal and external evaluation, as well as initiatives for promotion and sustainability, recognizing quality education as a key aspect of higher education in India.
Mission:
The mission of IQAC is to enhance the academic environment to improve the quality of teaching, learning, and research in the college. It aims to promote self-evaluations, autonomy, and innovations, collaborate with stakeholders for quality evaluation and sustenance, and drive quality improvement by removing deficiency.
Aims and objectives:
The aim and objectives of IQAC are to provide a system that promotes conscious, consistent, and catalytic actions to enhance the academic and administrative performance of the institution. It promotes measures to enhance quality through internalizing a culture of quality and institutionalizing best practices. Its goal is to improve clarity, focus, and quality in institutional functioning, integrate college activities, and provide a basis for decision-making, act as a change agent, and improve internal communication for policy implementation and quality assurance.
Mechanism and procedures:
The mechanism and procedures of IQAC focus on ensuring timely, efficient, and progressive performance 0f academic and administrative tasks, maintaining the relevance and quality of academic and research programs, providing equitable access to academic programs for different sections of society, optimizing modern teaching methods, ensuring credibility in evaluation procedures, and maintaining the adequacy and functionality of support services.
Guidelines for establishing IQAC:
An IQAC may be established in every higher education institution with the head of the institution serving as the chairman. The Criteria and principles for the composition of the IQAC of a higher educational institution are in accordance with the guidelines and norms of the NAAC and UGC. The Institution’s chairman, senior administrative officers, three to eight teachers, a member from the management, one nominee each from local society, students and alumni, employers, industrialists, stakeholders and one of the senior teachers as the coordinator/director of the IQAC.
